William and Anna Ratzloff

William Ratzloff was born May 4, 1883 in Gombin, Poland to Benjamin and Maria (née Nickel) Ratzloff.

William had a sister who was sent to Siberia.

Immigrating by ship with other Mennonites when he was 21, William ended up in Hillsboro, KS.

In 1909 he married Anna Martens, who was born Nov 21,1882 in South Russia. Coming from different nations, they met in Hillsboro.

Anna died July 25,1946 at 64.

Peter Hiebert was born Feb. 25, 1876; he died Oct. 19, 1920.

Anna had many siblings, but information about them is lost.

William died June 1, 1972 at 89 in Hiilsboro.

The couple had twelve children, all born at home.

  • Peter and
  • Eva both died at birth of intestinal obstructions,
  • Esther lived but 6 days;
  • Martha was just 9 days old when she passed
  • Marie succumbed to pneumonia at six years.

    Seven siblings reached adulthood.

  • Fred, a farmer and inventer, died at 68 of colon cancer.
  • Anna (née Ratzloff) Franz was a homemaker.
  • Ben W was a farmer
  • Olga was a homemaker
  • Gerhard (George) went from farming to professional accounting
  • Harry became an accomplished guitarist, dying at 76.
  • Sam was a farmer, dying at 80 from heart attack
